    Hello (standard, to anyone)

    Tip: annyeonghaseyo — Safe standard hello for strangers, shops and new people.

    How have you been? / How's it going?

    Tip: jal jinaesseoyo? — Friendly check-in with someone you already know.

    네, 잘 지냈어요

    I'm good / I've been well

    Tip: ne, jal jinaesseoyo — The usual reply — then ask them back.

    고마워요!

    Thanks!

    Tip: gomawoyo! — Everyday thanks for friends and small favours.

    아니에요

    You're welcome / Not at all

    Tip: anieyo — Light, modest reply when someone thanks you.

    Sorry! (small things)

    Tip: mianhaeyo! — Quick sorry for small things, like bumping into someone.

    Excuse me! (to get attention)

    Tip: jeogiyo! — Get attention: call a waiter or stop someone in the street.

    Could you say that again, please?

    Tip: dasi han beon malhae juseyo — When you didn't catch something. Say it with a smile.

    Tip: cheoncheonhi malhae juseyo — Natives talk fast — this one is a lifesaver.
