Seeing a GP in France

Book a GP visit, explain your symptoms, and leave with a prescription, a sick note and your reimbursement sorted.

In France most GP appointments are booked on Doctolib or by phone, and you hand over your carte Vitale so the visit is sent straight to the Assurance Maladie. Declaring a médecin traitant (your regular GP) gets you the full reimbursement rate, and a mutuelle tops up the part the state doesn't cover. Many GPs now offer tiers payant, so you may not have to pay up front; the doctor sends any arrêt de travail (sick note) electronically, and you take the ordonnance to any pharmacy.
