Baby Talk at a French Playground

Chat with other parents about ages, sleep, teeth, food and nappies at a French park.

French babies get free check-ups at the PMI (protection maternelle et infantile) or with a paediatrician, and everything goes in the carnet de santé you bring to each visit. Before age three, childcare is a crèche (day nursery), an assistante maternelle (a registered childminder, often called la nounou) or a nanny, and the CAF helps with the cost. At the park, parents who don't know each other usually start with vous, but the tone is relaxed and often switches to tu quickly.
