A Baby's First Birthday Party in France
Bring a present, sing for the birthday girl and share cake at a French first-birthday party.
In France a first birthday is usually a family affair at home, on a weekend afternoon around a cake with a single candle. Guests sing « Joyeux anniversaire » to the tune known worldwide, and friends and family greet each other with la bise. Close relatives sometimes give money for the child's livret A, a tax-free savings account many French children have.
