Exams and Grades at a French University

Talk exams with classmates, react to your marks out of 20 and ask a lecturer to go over your paper.

French marks are out of 20, and 10/20 (la moyenne) is the pass mark; 14 or more is a very good result, and 18+ is rare. At university the end-of-semester exams are called les partiels, often combined with contrôle continu (coursework marks), and if you fail a module you can usually sit le rattrapage, a resit session in June. Students have the right to see their marked paper (consulter sa copie) at a set session. Classmates say tu; lecturers are vous.
