Hosting Friends for Dinner in France
Welcome your guests, serve the apéro and the meal the French way, and see them off at the end of the night.
French guests usually arrive ten or fifteen minutes after the time you give and bring a bottle of wine, flowers or a dessert. The evening starts with l'apéro (drinks and nibbles), then the meal runs entrée, plat, cheese, dessert, and finally coffee or a herbal tea, often until late. Friends greet with la bise, and when you talk to a couple at once you use vous as a plural even if you say tu to each of them.
