Opening a French Bank Account

Sit down with a bank adviser, bring the right papers and leave with a current account, a card and your RIB.

In France you usually open an account by appointment with a « conseiller » at a branch, or online with a bank like Boursorama or a neobank. You'll need ID, a « justificatif de domicile » (a recent utility bill or rent receipt) and sometimes proof of income; if banks keep refusing you, the Banque de France can enforce your « droit au compte ». Your RIB (bank details slip with your IBAN) is what employers, landlords and the CAF ask for, and most banks charge monthly fees for the account and card.
