Ordering at a French Restaurant
Get a table, order a formule and your steak cooked right, and ask for the bill like a local.
French restaurants and brasseries usually serve lunch from about 12:00 to 14:00 and dinner from 19:30, and kitchens close in between. At lunch many places offer a « formule » (starter + main or main + dessert at a set price) or a « plat du jour ». Tap water in a carafe is free if you ask for « une carafe d'eau », service is included by law, and the bill never comes until you ask for it.
