Getting Around Paris by Metro and Bus
Buy a ticket, find your line, change trains and cope with delays, strikes and ticket checks on the Paris metro and buses.
In Paris the metro, RER and buses run on the same network: you load tickets or a weekly or monthly pass onto a Navigo card or pay with your phone, and you must validate before every trip. Metro lines are named by number and direction, the last station on the line, so you say « ligne 4, direction Porte de Clignancourt ». Strikes (grèves) and disruptions are announced on the RATP and Île-de-France Mobilités apps, and inspectors can fine you on the spot if you haven't validated.
