In France you must be on the listes électorales of your commune to vote; young people are registered automatically at 18 if they did the recensement citoyen at 16, and naturalised citizens are added after naturalisation. After a move you have to register again in your new commune, online on service-public.fr or at the mairie, until the sixth Friday before the election, with ID and a justificatif de domicile under three months old. Voting is not compulsory, abstention is high among young people, and EU citizens can register to vote in municipal and European elections.
