A Ski Day in the French Alps
Buy a lift pass, rent your gear, survive the slopes and the chairlift, then warm up with a vin chaud and a raclette.
French ski resorts sell a forfait (lift pass) by the day or the week, often cheaper online in advance, and you rent skis, boots and helmet from shops at the foot of the slopes. Pistes are graded green, blue, red and black, the lifts (les remontées mécaniques) usually close around 16 h 30, and the ESF ski school's instructors in red jackets give group and private lessons. Friends on the slopes use tu; at the ticket office and the rental shop you say vous.
