Souvenir Hunting in Provence
Browse a Provençal market, ask what's local and handmade, get a gift wrapped and pack it safely for the trip home.
Good French souvenirs are local products: Marseille soap, lavender, herbes de Provence, calissons from Aix, Breton salted-butter caramels or Normandy cider. Always greet the seller with « bonjour » when you walk in, and shops will often wrap a present for free if you ask for « un paquet cadeau ». Bargaining isn't usual in shops, but at a market you can ask for a small discount if you buy several, and remember that liquids over 100 ml must go in checked luggage.
