Pastries, Sweets and Snacks in Toulouse

Order at the boulangerie, pick macarons, talk about le goûter and the great chocolatine debate.

In France, le goûter is the afternoon snack around 4pm, mainly for children but plenty of adults keep the habit. In the south-west, including Toulouse and Bordeaux, a pain au chocolat is called une chocolatine, and locals will happily correct you. Pastries are bought at the boulangerie-pâtisserie, where you use vous; with friends, snacks for l'apéro are usually salty: chips, cacahuètes, saucisson.
