Disagreeing Politely in French Tech Meetings

Push back on a teammate's idea without burning bridges, using the idioms French engineers reach for in a heated meeting.

French workplace culture values debate: disagreeing openly in a meeting is normal and not seen as rude, as long as you argue your case. In tech teams people tutoient each other and soften objections with 'je vois ce que tu veux dire, mais…' or 'sans vouloir te vexer'. Everyday idioms like 'mettre la charrue avant les bœufs' or 'couper la poire en deux' come up constantly, even in very technical discussions.
