Know Your Rights at Work in France

Talk with colleagues about unions, strikes, overtime, RTT days and the collective agreement that covers your job.

In France your rights come from the Code du travail plus the convention collective of your sector, which often adds better pay, notice or bonuses. Union membership is low, but every company with 11 or more staff has an elected CSE (staff committee), and big companies have union delegates from the CGT, CFDT, FO and others. Overtime beyond 35 hours is paid at least 25% extra, many full-time staff get RTT days off instead, and employment disputes go to the conseil de prud'hommes.
