Picking Mushrooms and Berries in Spain

Go mushroom hunting in a Spanish pine forest, check the rules, pick blackberries on the way back and get your haul checked.

Autumn mushroom picking is a big deal in Soria, Catalonia and the Basque Country, and many areas require a permiso de recolección bought online from the town hall or regional government, with a daily kilo limit. Pickers use a basket and a navaja, and local mycological associations will check your mushrooms for free. The cards follow one day out in a pine forest in Soria, from the car park to dinner.

Don't eat the ones by the road, they're covered in dust.

  13. 13

Todavía no están maduras, aún están rojas.

They're not ripe yet, they're still red.
