Meeting Someone New in Spain
Say hello, ask the usual first questions and swap numbers when you meet someone new in Spain.
In Spain people greet new acquaintances warmly — often with two kisses on the cheek between women or between a man and a woman, and a handshake or hug between men — and switch to tú almost immediately. First chats run through the same questions: where you're from, how long you've been here, what you do. The cards follow one evening at a language exchange ('intercambio') in a bar in Salamanca.
