School Lunch in Spain
Signing up for the school canteen, asking about grants, allergies and menus, and talking about lunch with your child.
In Spain, school lunch is optional: kids who 'se quedan al comedor' pay a monthly fee, and families with lower income can apply for a 'beca de comedor' through the regional government, usually with the previous year's tax return. Schools publish the monthly menu and offer allergy menus and a 'dieta blanda' when a child has been ill. The cards follow a parent asking another mum, the school office and their own son about the canteen.
