Au restaurant américain, on attend qu'on vous place (wait to be seated), et le serveur passe souvent vous voir — c'est de l'attention, pas de l'insistance. L'eau du robinet est gratuite et servie avec des glaçons. L'addition s'appelle the check, et le pourboire de 18–20 % n'est pas inclus : il est attendu.
