Body Language Expressions
What Swedish says with the body — kalla handen, sträcka på sig, and not moving a min.
Body language, head to posture: the eye axis (få ögonkontakt, se någon i ögonen — undvika någons blick), the arms (öppet kroppsspråk versus korsade armar, the stadigt handslag), the head signals (nicka, skaka på huvudet, höja på ögonbrynen), the cold repertoire (kalla handen, vända ryggen), the posture pair (sträcka på sig / sitta hopsjunken) — closing on the reader's skills: läsa någon som en öppen bok, and stämningen i rummet.

- 1
att få ögonkontakt
to make eye contact
Tip: Swedish uses 'få' (get) rather than 'make'

att undvika någons blick
to avoid someone's gaze
Tip: 'blick' = gaze or glance
- 4
öppet kroppsspråk
open body language
Tip: 'kroppsspråk' is literally 'body language'
- 5

Tip: both literal and figurative, as in English
- 13
att inte röra en min
to keep a straight face

- 14
att sträcka på sig
to stand tall
Tip: literally 'to stretch oneself'; also means to be visibly proud
- 15
att sitta hopsjunken
to slouch
Tip: 'hopsjunken' = collapsed together, from 'sjunka' (to sink)
- 16
att hålla avstånd
to keep your distance
Tip: no article; a phrase Swedes apply generously in queues and on buses
- 17
att le artigt
to smile politely
