Disagreeing With a Decision

Pushing back on a ruling without losing your temper — the Swedish way.

Disagreeing with an insurance decision — firmly, Swedishly: the opening dissent (jag håller inte med om det beslutet, på vilka grunder?), the document duel (var står det? — jag tolkar det annorlunda — då läser vi det olika), the escalation ladder (någon annan, en chef, den som fattar det slutgiltiga beslutet), the tone management (jag är inte ute efter bråk — jag vill bara att det granskas igen) — closing on the note every dispute should end on: tack för att ni tar det på allvar.

  1. 1

Jag håller inte med om det beslutet.

I don't agree with that decision.

  2. 2

Det känns inte rätt tycker jag.

That doesn't seem right to me.

  3. 3

Kan ni förklara hur ni tänker?

    Could you explain the reasoning?

  4. 4

    På vilka grunder?

    On what grounds?

  5. 5

Så sa man inte till mig.

That's not what I was told.

  6. 6

    Jag fick andra uppgifter.

    I was given other information.

  7. 7

    Jag vill överklaga.

    I'd like to appeal.

  8. 8

Jag förstår, men jag håller ändå inte med.

I understand, but I still disagree.

  9. 9

    Där har ni en poäng.

    You have a point there.

  10. 10

    Det är rimligt.

    That's fair enough.

  11. 11

    Det kan jag acceptera.

    I can accept that.

  12. 12

    Det är inte acceptabelt.

    That's not acceptable.

  13. 13

    Vi går igenom villkoren tillsammans.

Let's look at the terms together.

  14. 14

    Var står det?

    Where does it say that?

  15. 15

    Jag tolkar det annorlunda.

    I read it differently.

  16. 16

    Vi får tycka olika.

We'll have to agree to differ.

  17. 17

Kan någon annan titta på det?

Could someone else look at it?

  18. 18

Jag vill prata med en chef.

I'd like to speak to a manager.

  19. 19

Jag är inte nöjd med det här.

    I'm not happy with this.

  20. 20

Tack, men jag går vidare med det.

Thanks, but I'll take it further.

  21. 21

    Okej, vi gör så.

Fine, let's do it that way.

  22. 22

Det låter som en rimlig kompromiss.

That sounds like a reasonable compromise.

  23. 23

Jag vill helst lösa det nu.

I'd rather sort it out now.

  24. 24

    Jag uppskattar att ni lyssnar.

    I appreciate you listening.

  25. 25

    Så vi är överens?

    So we're agreed?

  26. 26

Bra, då lämnar vi det där.

Good, then we'll leave it there.

  27. 27

Jag vill gärna få det skriftligt.

I'd like to see that in writing.

  28. 28

    Vilken punkt hänvisar ni till?

Which clause are you referring to?

  29. 29

    Kan ni skicka villkoren?

Could you send me the terms?

  30. 30

    Jag har faktiskt läst dem.

    I've read them, actually.

  31. 31

    Det står inte så där.

    It doesn't say that there.

  32. 32

    Då läser vi det olika.

    Then we read it differently.

  33. 33

    Vem fattar det slutgiltiga beslutet?

    Who makes the final decision?

  34. 34

Kan jag prata med den personen?

    Can I speak to them?

  35. 35

    När skulle det gå?

    When would that be possible?

  36. 36

    Jag väntar på återkoppling.

    I'll wait for the callback.

  37. 37

Hur lång tid tar en omprövning?

How long does an appeal take?

  38. 38

    Kostar det något?

    Is there a cost?

  39. 39

    Jag vill gå vidare ändå.

    I'd like to proceed anyway.

  40. 40

    Notera gärna min invändning.

    Please note my objection.

  41. 41

Jag är inte ute efter bråk.

    I'm not being difficult.

  42. 42

Jag vill bara att det granskas igen.

I just want it looked at again.

  43. 43

    Det är helt rimligt.

    That's entirely reasonable.

  44. 44

Tack för att ni tar det på allvar.

Thank you for taking it seriously.

  45. 45

    Då hörs vi nästa vecka.

I'll hear from you next week, then.

  46. 46

    Tack för din tid.

    Thanks for your time.
