Learning an instrument, the Swedish route: kulturskolan and its kö, the rented nybörjarfiol i mindre storlek, the theory kit (ackord, tonart, taktarten), the practice science (femton minuter varje dag slår två timmar på söndagen; repetera tills det sitter — but beware: öva in felet), the elevkonsert i församlingshemmet with its nervous hands and proud parents, the ensemble lesson (ingen hör en enda felton, men alla hör att man stannar) — ending with the arc everyone recognizes: sluta vid fjorton, ångra vid trettio, börja om som vuxen — äntligen för sin egen skull.
