On the Way to an Interview

Reception, nerves and the wrong floor, minutes before an interview.

The interview-day gauntlet, floor by floor: the reception script (jag har en intervju klockan tio, jag ska träffa Karin Lund), the navigation and timing (lite tidig — or hissen hade fastnat), the waiting-room logistics, the nerves and the rival candidate (är du här för samma tjänst? Lycka till där inne), the self-pep-talk (ta ett djupt andetag, det här fixar jag) — and the closing question every candidate rehearses: när hör ni av er?

    Tip: klockan + time

    Tip: ska träffa = am here to meet

    Which floor are they on?

    Tip: sitta is used for where a company is located

    Tip: Directions from reception

    Am I in the right building?

    Tip: rätt = correct, no article

    Jag är lite tidig.

    I'm a little early.

    Tip: Five minutes early is right in Sweden

    Sorry I'm late, the lift was stuck.

    Tip: Past perfect for what happened before

    Take a seat, they'll come and get you.

    Tip: slå sig ner = take a seat

    Tip: hänga av sig = to take off your outer layer
